I finally finished the Ashton Shawlette! It feels like it took me forever. Unfortunately I'm not ecstatic about the finished project, and am a little disappointed. I hadn't realized that I had messed up a portion of the chart on one half of the shawlette, nor did I realize I had done the cast-off too tightly thus creating a straight edge rather than a scalloped one at the bottom. Oh well.
My apologies for neglecting my duties as a blogger... Life continues to get in the way, but I'm here now and let me catch you up on my crafting addictions as of late! (Promise this post is mostly pictures!) I finally finished the Ashton Shawlette! Oh well. My family's poor little shih tzu dog, Tobey, was feeling sorely neglected due to the presence of my new service dog, Patty. He was getting very jealous that she got to sleep in my bed and was following me everywhere. To help lessen the sting, I made him his own little bed from some scraps of superhero fabric that I had. Just two simply squares sewn together with a little polyester fiberfill between them to create a soft little bed for him in my room. And finally, I began a new embroidery project called "Spring Sampler" that I found on Pinterest. The pattern is from Bakercourt – Design, Bake, Craft. It's a lot of fun to work so far, and is putting my embroidery skills to the test. I decided to stitch it on some cotton fabric that I had, after dyeing it a nice beige color with some extra strong coffee. And I transferred the design using my window as a lightbox and lightly penciled it onto the fabric before stitching. So that's my crafting adventure as of late. What have you been working on? Let me know in the comments below if there are any awesome projects out there that I'm missing out on!

Everyone who crafts their gifts has had this happen: you are rushing to complete the gift and it just doesn't get done. So you have to decide if you are going to purchase something or simply tell the recipient that you have a gift and will give it to them at a later date. This is what happened with the bridal shower gift. And because I was going to be out of town during the shower for training with my service dog, I was going to have to give it to her later anyway. The bread cover was from MCG Textiles (found at Joann Fabrics), measuring 18x18", and embroidered with DMC thread in color 310 (black). I chose a simple geometric design to stitch around the edge. I used the black because I am not entirely sure of the bride-to-be's kitchen colors, and I thought black and white would go with most anything. There are a few imperfections but I feel like I was able to fudge them a little. I even had my sister with the eagle eyes inspect it for mistakes - she only found 1 of the 4 and she is usually very particular! To accompany the bread cover, I included my favorite beer bread and honey butter recipes, printed on free, printable recipe cards from Love vs. Design that you can find here and printed in pale blue cardstock. To finish the gift I just need to find a cute bread basket! So I'd love some feedback. What do you think? Cute gift? Lame? Tell me your thoughts! I have a feeling I will be needing more bridal shower gifts in the future!
Hi all! This is my first blog post so please bear with me. To kick things off I thought I should introduce myself. I am the oldest of four girls in a small town in Missouri. I have always been a crafter, and my addiction has only grown stronger. I currently have three boxes of yarn shoved under my bed with random skeins tucked around my room, two storage bins of craft supplies in my closet, and odds and ends of crafting stuffs around my parents' house. I have also planned out a variety of crafts for the summer. One of my friends that I've known since kindergarten is getting married and I've been searching for a bridal shower gift. I had the good fortune of having my mom suggest a bread cover, similar to the one that I embroidered for her for Mother's Day. So, in true procrastination fashion, I gathered the supplies a week before the project would need to be completed. I just want to do a simple, geometric design in black (which, after a brief discussion with my sister it was agreed that black and white goes with most everything). Included with the gift will be a bread basket and a few of my favorite bread recipes (you will soon learn that I love to cook).
