After having looked at some really nicely designed websites, I decided it was time to breathe some new life into mine. Although my blog is only a year old, I figured a new look might renew some interest on my part to write more content. A few things about my current projects: - I am no longer trying to refurbish the TV. I realized as I got into it that I really have no idea what I'm doing, and a more basic refinishing project would be necessary to get my feet wet before attempting something like this. - The "blanket of many colors" (a.k.a. the scrap blanket) is a work in progress, and will probably take many years to complete. Now, I did recently finish a project! I have recently gotten back into embroidery, and finished a small piece for my kitchen. The design is from Urban Threads, and their fun, contemporary (not to mention affordable!) designs have gotten me excited to do hand embroidery again! My project, "Where the Coffee is" (pattern link), is stitched on simple cotton, with 2 strands of DMC floss. I'm afraid I don't know the color numbers of most of it, just because a lot of what I used was small bits from previous projects. I lightly traced the design with a pencil before stitching. To add some color between the stitched lines, I lightly colored in the spaces with Crayola colored pencils while it was still in the hoop. | |
Currently, the project needs a thin, simple, black frame (as well as to be pressed and mounted, of course!). I know framing with glass is considered a big no-no when framing an embroidery project, but because it will be hung over my kitchen sink, I want the fabric to be protected some. Later if I live somewhere else and it isn't hung over the sink, I plan on removing the glass.
My next project will be a Christmas-themed embroidery piece. More details to come! :)
